Littlehampton sits either side of the mouth of the River Arun, with the town centre and harbour at its heart. Moving out from the centre, the town takes in several districts and neighbouring settlements:
- Town centre and harbour — the High Street, The Arcade and the River Arun harbourside, on the east bank of the river.
- East Beach — the main seafront area east of the harbour, home to the Longest Bench, East Beach Cafe and Norfolk Gardens.
- West Beach — on the west bank of the river mouth, a quieter nature reserve reached via the road bridge upstream or the seasonal ferry.
- Wick — north-west of the town centre, absorbed into Littlehampton in 1901.
- Toddington — to the north, home to Toddington Business Park, also absorbed in 1901.
- Lyminster — just north of the town, on the way towards Arundel.
- Rustington — a separate settlement immediately to the east, part of the same wider built-up area.
